while browsing a book store in estes park, colorado i came across touching peace: practicing the art of mindful living by thich nhat hanh. i had read one other book (name escapes me) about mindfulness and meditation and this book seemed like a good way to further learn about the concept.
the book is a simple read but really jived with me. the setting of the colorado mountains and the camping and hiking i did was a great backdrop for appreciating mindfulness. the idea that it’s a practice of daily life and not just sitting meditation appealed to me. mindfulness as an idea and perspective was something i picked up on that trip and something that has remained with me while many other ideas have not stood the test of time.
there’s not much else for me to say about the man that wrote the book that inspired me. so many others have written his biography and know him better.
I do not personally know of anyone more worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize than this gentle Buddhist monk from Vietnam. - martin luther king, jr
so i have made this page as a somewhat introduction to mindfulness by one of the masters of the art. i’ve been trying to live in the present moment ever since and it has a profound impact on the posts you will find on this blog.
