Hello – shadow roads

black moth super rainbow :: born on a day the sun didn’t rise
i ride along shadows on my bike. on sunny days when i hit a certain section of my commute all the utility polls cast long shadows. the shadows jut out from the edge of the road at 20 degree angles and can sometimes be 12 feet long.
and i ride these shadows like a kid. most all of us as a kid balanced along a path or walkway pretending that falling off would mean certain death in pools of hot lava or torn apart by man eating crocodiles. my imagination isn’t that vivid anymore but i do pretend that when i ride the narrow shadow of the handrail across the river that it’s the only way to get to the other side.
they are these arbitrary paths that i imbue with meaning. we sometimes perceive the world as the shadows we cast on it. freud had at least one thing right. we project meaning onto things that may or may not represent reality or our best interest. we follow a path to avoid the crocodiles and hot lava we are certain to doom us if we change course.
if we overlaid a map of the paths of our lives would we connect more with those that we intersect with or is it possible to live similar lives that never intersect?
have fun in the shadows and as always, take care. <(((O
